Independent developer Saibot Studios and publisher New Blood Interactive have locked down October 16 as the official release date for Tenebris Somnia. The ambitious project is slated to arrive on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. Alongside the digital rollout, boutique distributor Lost in Cult will handle physical editions for collectors.

While the game channels the dark, tense energy of legendary horror masterpieces, it takes a deliberate detour into a nostalgic, side-scrolling format reminiscent of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. The interactive loop focuses on a desperate bid for survival, forcing you to unravel intricate environmental puzzles and stand ground against terrifying, grotesque creatures. As the eerie atmosphere thickens, you are left to confront a unsettling question: What if these threats aren’t just nightmares?
The true heart of the experience, however, lies in how it shatters the boundaries of retro storytelling. At pivotal narrative junctures, the pixelated world drops away entirely to present the story from a completely different point of view. These sequences transition seamlessly into high-production live-action cutscenes. Shot by an award-winning, professional film crew out of Argentina, these cinematic interludes utilize real actors and tangible, practical special effects, creating a jarringly visceral contrast with the game’s old-school presentation.
