Simone R-Type Tactics I • II Cosmos, a turn-based strategy RPG collection set in the long-running sci-fi series, launches June 18 in the West for PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch & Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Published by NIS America, the collection brings together two tactical entries in the franchise, including the Western debut of R-Type Tactics II. Originally released in Japan earlier this year, the package reintroduces both titles to modern platforms with updated accessibility for a new audience.
Shifting away from the series’ traditional shoot ’em up roots, the gameplay focuses on strategic, turn-based combat. Missions unfold across multiple campaigns, allowing control over both the Space Corps and their long-standing adversaries, the Bydo. This dual perspective expands the narrative while offering varied tactical approaches across branching scenarios.
The collection features a wide range of units and mission types, with hundreds of ships available across both titles. Storylines evolve depending on player choices, particularly in the second entry, where branching paths provide different outcomes and perspectives on the ongoing conflict.
In addition to the original content, a new post-game chapter extends the experience beyond the main campaigns, introducing additional missions that further explore the universe and its factions.
A limited edition version is also available for select platforms, bundling the game with physical extras such as a soundtrack, art cards, and collectible items tied to the series.
