The action roguelite game DemonBane Ascension has been officially announced by publisher XD and developer Howkey Deer, with a new trailer offering a first look at its gameplay and narrative direction. Inspired by cultivation mythology and classic Chinese legends such as The Investiture of the Gods, the game is in development for PC and set to launch via Steam.

In DemonBane Ascension, players step into the role of a Banebreaker, a mortal bound to a cursed cycle of descent and rebirth. Each run drops players into a world reshaped by fate, where fast-paced, skill-driven combat is shaped by legendary weapons and mythic artifacts. These artifacts are not passive stat boosts, but active forces that trigger automatically in battle and fundamentally define each build, allowing for highly varied playstyles from one run to the next through deep roguelite customization.
The game’s combat systems are reinforced by the Five Elements framework, encouraging players to specialize in a single element or combine multiple elements to create powerful synergies. As players push deeper, they will explore five distinct regions that constantly evolve under a looming blood moon, confronting demons, fallen gods, and story-driven events drawn from a reimagined post-Deification era. Between runs, long-term progression systems allow players to break through cultivation realms, endure punishing Heavenly Tribulations, and unlock abilities that permanently reshape future descents.
Narrative progression unfolds gradually as players uncover forgotten scrolls and encounter legendary figures, revealing a darker truth behind the so-called Heavenly Tao. With its blend of rapid action, artifact-driven builds, and mythological storytelling, DemonBane Ascension aims to deliver a replay-focused experience rooted in both mechanical depth and thematic atmosphere. The Steam store page is now live, with a playable demo planned for a future release.
