First-person horror game The Occultist is set to launch this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with a public demo now available for PC as part of the Steam Festival of Detectives 2026.

For the first time, the demo allows players outside the studio to step onto the fog-shrouded island of GodStone and experience the unsettling atmosphere that defines The Occultist. Designed to last around forty minutes, the playable slice offers an early look at the game’s investigative structure, environmental storytelling, and tension-driven exploration, while making clear that this is still an in-development build and that progress will not carry over to the full release.
The demo places players in the role of paranormal investigator Alan Rebels, whose search for answers on the abandoned island is driven by personal loss and a web of occult mysteries. Exploration, observation, and puzzle-solving take center stage, with an emphasis on mood and unease rather than direct confrontation. Players are encouraged to take their time, read their surroundings, and piece together fragments of a larger narrative buried within GodStone’s ruins.
The Occultist is shaping up to be a slow-burning psychological horror experience rooted in first-person exploration and the supernatural. The full game is planned to expand on these foundations with a deeper narrative, more complex puzzles, and heightened tension as Alan’s investigation pushes further into the island’s dark past.
