Masahiro Sakurai presented a full look at Kirby Air Riders during today’s dedicated Direct, showcasing the chaotic blend of racing, combat, and airborne Kirby fun coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on November 20.

The game builds on 2003’s Kirby Air Ride with major upgrades. Players can choose from a wide roster of riders, each with unique attributes that affect their Air Ride machines. Machines themselves differ in speed, handling, and durability, and many can glide through the skies or grind across rails for added mobility. New to this entry are special attacks, charged boosts, and the ability for all riders to copy abilities by inhaling enemies.
Kirby Air Riders‘s highlight is City Trial, now set on a massive floating island called Skyah. Here, riders roam freely to collect power-ups, steal machines, and battle opponents while random events and Kirby bosses like Kracko and Dyna Blade appear. After the trial phase, players bring their customized machines into stadium events to compete for victory.
Other modes include standard Air Ride races, where attacks provide speed boosts rather than slowdowns, and a set of driving lessons to master advanced techniques. Local wireless play supports up to eight players, while online lobbies allow up to sixteen with optional GameChat features. Beyond gameplay, select tracks from the Kirby Air Riders soundtrack are being added today to the Nintendo Music app for Nintendo Switch Online members.
Visitors at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, between August 20 and 24 will be the first to try City Trial hands-on. Developed by Sora Ltd. and Bandai Namco Studios, Kirby Air Riders launches worldwide for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 20.
