Capcom’s iconic survival horror franchise is heading into new territory. Resident Evil: Survival Unit, a free-to-play mobile strategy game developed by Aniplex and JOYCITY, is set to launch in 2025 for iOS and Android. The game will be available in North America, Europe, Japan, Korea, and other parts of Asia.

Departing from the traditional survival horror formula, Survival Unit introduces a real-time strategy experience tailored for mobile devices. Set in a parallel universe, the game tells an original story grounded in Resident Evil lore, while offering players a fresh gameplay perspective. The journey begins in a locked-down hospital, where the protagonist awakens to discover they’ve been a test subject of the Umbrella Corporation. What follows is a battle for survival that unfolds into a broader narrative involving iconic characters from across the franchise.
In Survival Unit, players manage a fully realized base modeled as a mansion—complete with atmospheric interiors and familiar touches drawn from Resident Evil history. Here, they can interact with classic characters like Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Claire Redfield, each bringing their own skills to the battlefield. The mansion also serves as a hub for mission planning, item acquisition from the Weapons Merchant, and character development.
Real-time battles play a central role in gameplay. Players must defend against monstrous threats inspired by Resident Evil’s legacy, using tactical positioning and character abilities to survive. The game places an emphasis on strategic depth, blending moment-to-moment decisions with long-term base management and team synergy.
Adding to its artistic flair, the game features a new original creature designed by acclaimed artist Yoshitaka Amano, known for his haunting and surreal visual style. The creature, named Mortem, introduces a fresh psychological edge to the game’s atmosphere and deepens its horror elements.
Resident Evil: Survival Unit is being developed as a global multiplayer experience, offering competitive and cooperative play in real time. While the gameplay shifts focus from horror to strategy, the title retains the signature tension and atmosphere fans have come to expect from the Resident Evil universe—reimagined through a mobile-first lens.
More details on gameplay, content, and pre-registration are expected closer to launch.
