Publisher Dear Villagers and independent developer Lifeline Game Studio have announced that Deer & Boy will officially launch on June 23. The stylized cinematic platformer will be available digitally for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Described by the creators as an “animated film you can play”, Deer & Boy centers around a runaway boy who crosses paths with a fragile, vulnerable fawn. The game tracks their evolving, silent bond through highly striking visual storytelling and a sweeping musical score, ditching traditional dialogue to focus purely on a poetic journey of recovery.
As you progress through the adventure, the gameplay dynamics shift naturally alongside the companion’s growth. Early on, you must protect your fragile animal friend from environmental hazards and looming dangers. Over time, the fawn matures into a majestic deer, unlocking unique companion abilities that allow the pair to overcome puzzles and traverse difficult obstacles as equal partners.
According to game director and Lifeline Game Studio founder Jayson Houdet, the project explores multi-layered themes surrounding companionship, inner strength, and mental healing. Designed to be accessible to a wide audience, it features distinct emotional layers intended to offer a simple tale of friendship for younger players, alongside a deeper, contemplative psychological narrative for adult audiences.
