Debuting with a world premiere trailer during Summer Game Fest, 1666: Amsterdam is a dark, third-person narrative action-adventure from Panache Digital Games, the independent Montreal-based studio behind Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey and founded by Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Désilets.
The full title is scheduled to launch via PC Early Access (Steam and Epic Games Store) later in 2026, with home console versions planned to follow further down the line. A free 30-minute playable prologue is available right now.
To coincide with the announcement, the developer has released a free, standalone playable prologue on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Lasting approximately 30 minutes, this narrative teaser serves as a mechanical and narrative introduction to the game’s core universe.
1666: Amsterdam‘s overarching plot focuses on a dark cycle of generational power, systemic debt, and ancient contracts sealed in the year 1333 that have quietly governed the expansion of Amsterdam for centuries. Players step into the role of Noa Brooklyn, a young woman raised by a faction known as the Zaindaris to fulfill a destiny she did not choose: inheriting the mantle of the so-called Collector.
The narrative structure uniquely spans three distinct interconnected timelines – 1666, 1999, and the present day – to unravel how ancient entities called the Originals interact with humanity. In an unexpected twist, Noa’s journey intersects with Aaron, a character drawn forward from 1999 who experiences the world entirely through the eyes of a cat. The available prologue highlights these reality-bending narrative shifts, forcing players to make an early, permanent choice regarding a companion character bound to Noa’s path during her ritualistic Commencement ceremony.
