Cost of Hope, a story-driven expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, is set to release in summer 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
A newly revealed trailer introduces a fresh chapter set within the Zone, expanding the core game with a nonlinear experience that adds dozens of hours of content. The expansion continues the story of Skif, placing him at the center of a renewed conflict between the factions Duty and Freedom, whose opposing ideologies once maintained a fragile balance that is now beginning to collapse.
The narrative unfolds alongside the events of the base game, with the new storyline triggered through an in-game signal after installing the content. As before, player choices remain central, influencing outcomes that extend beyond immediate encounters and shaping the broader consequences within the Zone.
Two new regions form the backbone of the expansion. The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant returns as a key location, now reopened for exploration, while the Iron Forest introduces a more maze-like environment filled with hidden paths and uncharted areas. Each region features its own hub, quests, and activities, further expanding the scope of the world.
Additional weapons and equipment are introduced to support players against the evolving threats within the Zone, including mutants, anomalies, and rival forces. As part of a larger narrative arc, Cost of Hope serves as the middle installment in a new trilogy of expansions, with further story content planned for the future.
