Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Demo Now Available Ahead of Launch Next Week

The survival horror adventure Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake will launch on March 12, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Ahead of its release, publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja have released a playable demo that lets players experience the opening section of the reimagined horror classic.

The demo allows players to follow twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura as they arrive in the eerie Minakami Village. Their journey begins inside an abandoned house, where a mysterious crimson butterfly leads them deeper into the cursed settlement. Armed with the upgraded Camera Obscura, players must confront restless spirits while exploring the unsettling environment.

This early preview also introduces some of the remake’s improvements, including enhanced visuals and sound design that modernize the original experience. Players can also try newly added gameplay elements, such as the ability for Mio to hold Mayu’s hand during exploration, strengthening the emotional connection between the two sisters as they navigate the haunted village together.

Notably, progress made during the demo can be transferred to the full game, allowing you to continue your journey without starting over when it launches later this month.

Pre-orders for the game are currently available, including a Digital Deluxe Edition that bundles the base game with a digital soundtrack, a digital art book, and a collection of bonus cosmetics. Early purchasers will also receive several in-game items, including charms, hair ornaments, and alternate outfits inspired by the original version of the game.
