The interactive graphic novel After the Wane has been unveiled for PC (Steam, itch.io), and Nintendo Switch, with a release planned for later this year, award-winning French studio Nova-box has announced alongside the game’s debut trailer.

Following in the creative lineage of Along the Edge and Across the Grooves, After the Wane embraces Nova-box’s signature blend of magical realism, hand-illustrated artwork, and choice-driven storytelling. The story centers on Lena, an aspiring dancer searching for her estranged mother while attempting to build a future in the city. What begins as a personal journey of artistic ambition gradually entangles her in rivalries between dance companies, emotional turmoil, and an unexpected occult presence that manifests as a mysterious voice guiding—or misleading—her decisions.
The narrative unfolds through illustrated panels and animated dance sequences, with player choices shaping Lena’s relationships, artistic path, and descent into the unknown. Each decision carries weight, influencing how deeply she becomes involved with elite dance circles, local community spaces, or darker supernatural interests. A dynamic, original soundtrack adapts to the tone of each scene and the consequences of the player’s actions, reinforcing the game’s intimate and often unsettling atmosphere.
Designed for replayability, After the Wane offers multiple branching paths and endings, encouraging players to revisit Lena’s story from different perspectives. Nova-box positions the game as another introspective, emotionally driven experience, combining personal growth with ominous undertones as art, identity, and obsession begin to blur.
