First look at co-op and PvP alongside major system upgrades.
FlipSwitch Games has released a new development update for War of the Worlds, offering a first look at the game’s multiplayer systems through pre-alpha gameplay footage. The update follows version 0.9.1, which was previously made available to Patreon testers and marked the introduction of multiplayer alongside broad performance improvements and technical fixes. War of the Worlds is currently in development for PC and is planned to launch in Early Access via Steam, with a release date yet to be announced.

According to FlipSwitch Games, the update focuses primarily on stability, optimization, and resolving long-standing issues, while also laying the technical groundwork for more frequent updates as development moves toward a planned Steam Early Access release. All footage shown represents work-in-progress content, with features, visuals, and systems still under active development.
Beyond multiplayer support, the current build includes progress across core gameplay systems such as weapons, vehicles, AI behavior, weather, and traversal. Environmental presentation has been significantly overhauled with updated lighting, fog, weather effects, and sound design, while new map areas and expanded character abilities—such as swimming, climbing, parachuting, and hang gliding—have been introduced. The update also includes AI refinements for both alien Tripods and other hostile entities, alongside deep optimization work affecting physics, terrain, and scene loading.
War of the Worlds is a hardcore open-world horror survival game set during the extermination of humanity. Set across a large-scale invasion scenario, the game challenges players to scavenge for resources, evade towering alien machines, and survive against both extraterrestrial threats and hostile human survivors. Multiplayer introduces asymmetric roles, allowing participants to side with either humans—focused on survival and resistance—or the alien forces tasked with wiping out humanity.
