Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have announced that Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake will launch on March 12, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The game will be priced at $49.99/£44.99/€49.99/¥6,380, with physical editions available for all consoles—Switch 2 copies shipping on a game-key card. Pre-orders are now open.

A Digital Deluxe Edition will be available for $69.99 / £52.99 / €64.99 / ¥8,580, including the base game, a digital art book, soundtrack, and the Digital Deluxe Bonus Set featuring the Deluxe Charm and Japanese Gothic outfit variations. Players who pre-order will also receive the Pre-Order Bonus Set, which includes themed accessories like Spirit Charm, Cat Ears, and Crimson Butterfly costumes for Mayu and Mio.
Originally released in 2003, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake reimagines the classic horror adventure with overhauled visuals, enhanced sound, and refined gameplay systems. The remake brings a new level of realism through upgraded lighting, detailed textures, and spatial audio designed to intensify the sense of dread. Spirits may now appear unexpectedly during exploration—grabbing the protagonist or striking when least expected—adding tension to every encounter.
The signature Camera Obscura returns with modernized mechanics. Players must focus, align, and time their shots precisely to maximize damage and trigger Shutter Chance or Fatal Frame states, allowing for powerful counterattacks. New features like adjustable zoom, focus indicators, and filters enhance both combat and exploration, revealing hidden objects and spectral memories throughout Minakami Village.
Additional mechanics include a new system allowing players to hold Mayu’s hand to restore health and willpower, as well as collectible Charms that grant special effects. Together, these updates combine to deliver a haunting reimagining of one of the most iconic entries in the Fatal Frame series.
