DaRmaZat Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games have announced Forza Horizon 6, the next entry in the open-world racing franchise. The game will launch first in 2026 for Xbox Series and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, with a PlayStation 5 release to follow after launch. It will also be available through Game Pass.
The reveal closed out the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2025 broadcast with a cinematic teaser that celebrated the history of the franchise before showcasing its new setting: Japan. The game will feature Mount Fuji, neon-lit Tokyo streets, serene waters, and countryside landscapes, all woven into a seamless open-world map. Seasonal changes, such as snowy winters and cherry blossom season, will transform the environment and gameplay.
Playground Games emphasized that Japan has long been one of the most requested locations from fans. To deliver authenticity, the studio collaborated with cultural consultant Yamashita, whose insights helped shape the game’s depiction of Japan’s unique blend of tradition and modernity. From shrines tucked beside arcades to the details of signage and ambient sounds, the goal is to create a world that feels both accurate and immersive.
Car culture will also be at the forefront, with the team highlighting Japan’s diverse automotive heritage, from drifting and motorsport to the customization scene and kei cars. Research trips to the country ensured that environmental details and everyday experiences, from station chimes to summer wind bells, would capture the spirit of Japan beyond its visuals.
