Publisher 3D Realms and developer Anshar Studios have announced that Painkiller, the modern reimagining of the cult first-person shooter, will no longer arrive on its previously scheduled date of October 9. The launch has been pushed back to October 21 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

Alongside the delay, the studios unveiled Rogue Angel, a standalone roguelike mode that separates itself from the main campaign. This mode transports players to a new vision of Purgatory, where they advance through procedurally generated arenas filled with relentless enemies. Tarot cards, weapons, and other items can be collected along the way to shape unique runs, culminating in punishing boss encounters.
The campaign itself drops players into a brutal battle for redemption after being cast into Purgatory. Wielding an array of infernal weapons, players must carve a path through gothic landscapes and endless hordes of demons to stop the fallen angel Azazel from invading Earth. The experience can be played solo or cooperatively online with up to three players, with each character offering distinct perks and abilities that alter the flow of combat.
With its mix of high-speed gunplay, grotesque monsters, and both campaign and roguelike content, Painkiller aims to bring the franchise’s legacy of over-the-top action to a new generation of players.
