Ubisoft and developer Ubisoft Bordeaux have released Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji, the game’s first major expansion. It is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, and PC via Steam and the Ubisoft Store. Players who pre-ordered the game receive it at no additional cost, while it is also available as a standalone purchase on all platforms.
The expansion continues the story of Naoe and Yasuke following the conclusion of the base game. Naoe travels to the remote island of Awaji in pursuit of a mysterious shinobi, only to uncover the ruthless Sanzoku Ippa, a faction threatening the island’s fragile peace. Over ten hours of new content await, with fresh regions, coastal landscapes, bustling towns, and ambush-filled encounters that test both heroes’ resolve.
Claws of Awaji also introduces new weapon skills, armor, and equipment that carry over into the base game, alongside new enemy types and formidable bosses. As a bonus, all players of Assassin’s Creed Shadows—whether they own the expansion or not—gain access to a free quest that unlocks the Bo Staff for Naoe, a fast and versatile weapon built for creative combos. Expansion players will be able to find legendary variants of the Bo Staff with unique engravings exclusive to Awaji.
The release of Claws of Awaji follows several updates to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, including New Game+, the Nightmare difficulty setting, and a September 11 update that added time-skipping and automatic fog clearing on synchronized maps.
