ASUS and Microsoft Gaming have announced that the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming PCs will launch on October 16 across major markets including the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Additional regions, such as Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Thailand, will follow in early 2026. Pricing and pre-order details will be shared in the coming weeks.

Two Handhelds, Two Tiers
The ROG Xbox Ally is designed as a sleek, efficient entry model powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A APU (four Zen 2 CPU cores, eight RDNA 2 GPU cores), backed by 16GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 60Wh battery.
The ROG Xbox Ally X takes things further with the new AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor featuring eight Zen 5 CPU cores, 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores, and a built-in 50 TOPS NPU. It also includes 24GB of faster LPDDR5X-8000 memory, a 1TB SSD, and a larger 80Wh battery for extended sessions.
Both devices feature a 7-inch 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, FreeSync Premium, Gorilla Glass Victus protection, and a wide array of I/O options.
Optimized for Handheld Gaming
To ensure smooth gameplay, Xbox has created a new Handheld Compatibility Program. Games tested under this initiative will carry either a Handheld Optimized badge (fully tuned for handheld play) or a Mostly Compatible badge (requiring minor setting tweaks).
The Ally X will also tap into upcoming AI-driven features such as Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) for upscaling games and Highlight Reels, which automatically captures key gameplay moments.
In addition, Advanced Shader Delivery support allows shaders to be preloaded during download, cutting load times and improving first-play performance by up to ten times. This system-level tool precompiles and stores shaders ahead of time, helping minimize stuttering and ensuring smoother frame pacing across many different games. Since it runs in the background at the OS level, developers don’t need to implement anything extra, and it works seamlessly alongside features like the Handheld Compatibility Program and Auto SR.
First Hands-On at Gamescom
The ROG Xbox Ally lineup will be fully playable for the first time at Gamescom 2025, where visitors can try titles including Gears of War: Reloaded, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Hogwarts Legacy, Lies of P, Balatro, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and a selection of Roblox experiences.
Adding to the celebration, Grand Theft Auto V actors Ned Luke and Shawn Fonteno will reunite at the ROG booth as part of the latest ROG Travel campaign, giving fans the chance to meet the duo in person.
