Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team NINJA have announced that Nioh 3’s first major downloadable content, titled Hell Rising, will arrive on August 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 (US, NL-BE) and PC via Steam.

Included as part of the game’s Season Pass alongside the upcoming second expansion, Bloody Insurrection, the DLC sends protagonist Takechiyo on a time-traveling journey to a war-torn future version of Edo.
Guided by a mysterious dream-world yokai, Takechiyo arrives in 1651 during the Keian era to find a peaceful future dismantled by the return of the Crucible following his future self’s death. Partnering with the legendary one-eyed swordsman Yagyu Jubei and Spanish envoy Rodrigo, Takechiyo must navigate chaotic stages swarming with yokai, human rebels, and foreign alchemists to unravel a fresh conspiracy revolving around Spirit Stones.
Hell Rising expands the core gameplay with the versatile hoko & shield and ninja hoko & shield weapon sets, blending short spear offenses with tactical shield maneuvers like blocking while striking or hurling the shield at foes. Additionally, the expansion introduces a higher difficulty mode – the Enlightened One’s Journey – alongside highly customizable Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scrolls, new Guardian Spirits, skills, Martial Arts, Ninjutsu, Onmyo Magic, and Graces.
