Ahead of the May 22 release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Warner Bros. Games, TT Games, DC, and The LEGO Group have unveiled a special comic titled The LEGO Batman Returns, arriving May 2 as part of Free Comic Book Day. This standalone story is set within the same universe as the upcoming game and offers a lighter, self-contained narrative centered on Batman’s return to Gotham City after a brief absence.

The comic celebrates the legacy of the Dark Knight across multiple forms of media, weaving in references to classic films, television series, and comic book history. Its opening imagery pays homage to Batman’s original appearance in Detective Comics #27 from 1939, echoing the iconic skyline pose that defined the Caped Crusader’s early identity.
Written by Ivan Cohen with artwork by Paul Lee, the story blends recognizable DC elements with the playful tone associated with LEGO adaptations. It will be available both physically through participating comic shops and digitally via the DC Universe Infinite app.
The game itself places Bruce Wayne at the center of an expansive journey to become Gotham’s protector, drawing inspiration from decades of Batman storytelling while incorporating the humor and style characteristic of TT Games’ LEGO titles. Pre-orders for both Standard and Deluxe editions are currently open, with the latter granting early access starting May 19.
Additional in-game content is also tied to select LEGO DC Batman sets, unlocking exclusive suits and vehicle variants once the game launches. Players can further earn classic-themed cosmetics, including a Golden Age Batsuit inspired by Batman’s original comic debut.
Open-world action adventure LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches May 22, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for later in 2026.
