Developer and publisher Topebox has released the first public demo for turn-based roguelite RPG The Severed Gods on PC via Steam. The demo represents a fully playable first chapter and offers an early look at the game’s core systems ahead of its planned 2026 release.

Rather than a limited preview, the demo includes a complete opening chapter featuring more than 40 enemy types, four elite encounters, and a large-scale boss battle against the first “Severed God”. Combat emphasizes tactical positioning across vertical zones (Low, Mid, High), timed skill execution, and a Break & Sever system that allows players to target and destroy specific body parts to alter enemy behavior and disable attacks.
Players can choose from three distinct heroes, each offering unique interaction mechanics with non-playable characters. These interactions allow players to inherit skills, gather intelligence, recruit allies, or otherwise influence progression. Build customization plays a central role, with over 80 combat skills and more than 70 relics in the demo that modify abilities through elemental effects, status conditions, combo chains, and other combat variations.
The demo also introduces the game’s karma-based decision system, where player choices accumulate Sin or Virtue and affect future encounters. During runs, players may encounter wandering characters such as a Chef who provides temporary buffs, a Spirit that enhances skills, or a Berserker who teaches advanced techniques.
Meta progression systems are also present, including Fate Prayers to unlock skills and relics, Hero Marks to improve character-specific NPC interactions, and Prosperity Blessings to upgrade facilities such as inns and shops. As with traditional roguelite design, defeat resets the world while allowing for persistent upgrades that strengthen future attempts.
Full release plans for The Severed Gods include at least three playable heroes, multiple major worlds with branching routes, more than 120 enemies, 30 multi-phase bosses, over 90 relics, and evolving village systems that change between runs. The game is currently scheduled to launch in 2026.
