Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition will launch for PC via Steam and GOG on August 14 for $29.99/€29.99, developer Relic Entertainment announced. Players who already own the Anniversary Edition of Dawn of War will receive a 30% discount on the Definitive Edition. This discount will be available on both storefronts and remain active indefinitely.

Originally released in 2004, Dawn of War set the standard for real-time strategy in the Warhammer 40K universe. The Definitive Edition is a full remaster built for modern systems, featuring enhanced graphics and technical upgrades while preserving the identity of the original. The game includes the full content suite from the original Dawn of War and its standalone expansions, offering players four full campaigns, nine playable armies, and over 200 maps in one complete package.
Players can expect support for 4K resolution, upscaled textures (4x the original resolution), and a new image-based lighting system that modernizes visuals without altering the tone of the grimdark sci-fi setting. Other improvements include updated unit reflections, shadows, unit gloss, and emissive lighting, all designed to enhance the battlefield without sacrificing its classic feel. The HUD and screen layout have been optimized for widescreen displays, and the in-game camera offers a more modern perspective on large-scale combat.
The Definitive Edition also transitions the game to a 64-bit platform, increasing performance and modding support. Relic has ensured compatibility with 20 years of community mods, solidifying this release as the definitive way to experience one of the RTS genre’s most celebrated titles.
